Hands up for homework: exploring inter-sessional activities in coaching

Purpose The use of “homework”, activities outside the classroom or session, is widely applied in a range disciplines including teaching, therapy and training. argument advanced by advocates that it provides an opportunity to consolidate knowledge learnt develop mastery environment. However, homework has not been discussed researched within business coaching, which form personal development. This exploratory study aims examine whether homework, as coaching intervention, may enhance clients' learning experience. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from eight early career coaches clients. Not all clients related coaches. Each client had experienced minimum three sessions. Interviews recorded analysed using thematic analysis. explored (1) client-led, (2) coach-led (3) collaboratively developed during engagements. Findings findings indicated used was perceived have mixed effects. positioning coach, terminology describe activity, type work can affect level engagement thus value generated. Originality/value first explore nature “homework” coaching. More needed better inform practice, how this agreed with different types clients, for example, should be collaborative led?
